Are you considering DOWNSIZING? Welcome to my club! Let me help you from profesional point of view.
Let's cover basics. What is your actual reason?
“Empty nest” syndrome?
Here are a few things I recommend to consider as you contemplate moving to a smaller home.
“Very important: your future life style. Focus on how you want to live. There are more and more people who are ready to move in order to exchange the worry and difficulty of maintaining a large property for the luxury of low maintenance and the opportunity for more leisure time.”
From one hand – they are ready – from other – they just can’t make that move. Emotional ties to the family home is one of the main barriers to downsizing, but equally, deciding on where to move to, and what style of property will best suit, can be just as daunting a prospect.
That is when I, Alla Tchouiko (Broker of Record/Owner of Alto Realty Inc.) come to rescue. First step is simple – to talk. I visit you, no obligation, and no contract – just a talk.
I offer to show you a few properties/areas/communities which will suite your needs/dreams. Then I suggest companies, which will look after decluttering/emptying the “nest”, repainting current house (if needed), making it look and feel it’s best. We do need to get maximum price for your home, don’t we? By the way – same companies will unpack you, help you to settle in your new home.
Only after you comfortable with places you will move – we start selling current and buying next property. Key words: only after. That is totally my work and I take price in job well done!
Additional tip (one of many):
During the downsizing process you may be surprised at how attached you have become to your possessions and how difficult it might seem to part with them. A good tip is to start getting rid of your items a few months before your move so donate, recycle, e-bay and give away some of those items you really don’t need anymore. This will make the move much easier and your smaller home less cluttered.
Decorators recommend sketching floor plans for your new home to see where all your current furniture will fit. You shouldn’t wait until you move in to discover that there’s just no room for that armoire or extra stools.
For those already on the top of their property ladder, they may find that reversing course and heading down is the right decision for them.
Do you know that there are few properties within less than 30-45 minutes from HWY 400/Steeles, which you can buy for $200,000- $350,000. Would that budget suite your needs/wants?
